For months, Maria’s visits to WINS were quick and guarded: she picked up hygiene basics, said thank you, and left. Then, at one appointment she started to open up when a WINS team member shared a little of her own story, and everything changed.
Maria talked about life as a newcomer, how she is struggling to hold it all together, and about how she often has to choose between doing laundry and buying food. She went home that day with a referral to the food bank, and some emergency food to get her through until then.
