Making Spirits Bright: How WINS Lighting the Way for Calgary Women and Families This Holiday Season
The holiday season is often celebrated as a time of joy, warmth, and togetherness, but for many women and families in Calgary, winter brings increased difficulty, financial stress, and uncertainty. At Women in Need Society (WINS), we believe every family deserves hope, dignity, and support, especially during the most challenging time of the year.
That belief is at the heart of our holiday - Making Spirits Bright campaign.
Each December, we call on our community to join us in uplifting local women and families through essential supports, and meaningful acts of kindness. And every year, Calgarians step up, helping us brighten hundreds, even thousands of lives. Making Spirits Bright | WINS Calgary
A Community-Powered Holiday Campaign
Making Spirits Bright is WINS’ biggest seasonal initiative, designed to ensure that women and children facing economic hardship do not feel forgotten during the holidays. This campaign fuels our year-round programs while creating special opportunities for families to experience warmth and connection in December.
Why It Matters
Many families struggle to afford food, winter clothing, and household essentials.
Single mothers often carry the weight of giving their children a joyful holiday despite financial barriers.
Newcomers, refugees, and women escaping violence may be starting from nothing.
Your support helps WINS turn hardship into hope.

Five community locations serving 5,000 participants in 2024 sounds concrete, but how do you measure whether employment-readiness programs lead to stable work rather than just attendance? If you’re tracking outcomes, a donation-impact worksheet could help donors see that link. The $1 million in basic needs goods is huge; is that retail value or actual cost?
this article thoughtfully highlights the specific challenges many face during the holidays. the focus on dignity and practical support, like food hampers and employment services, makes the work of wins feel very tangible. it's good to see the measurable impact, such as the value of goods provided, which adds a layer of credibility to the campaign's goals.
