Spring Cleaning Tips for Donating to WINS: Declutter and Do Good!

As the days grow longer, there's a natural urge to refresh and renew. And what better way to embrace the spirit of spring than by decluttering your home and giving back to your community? Whether you're downsizing, redecorating, or simply craving some organization, spring cleaning presents the perfect opportunity to clear out your unwanted goods and donate them to a worthy cause.

And right now, we need your help. Many Calgary families are in need of furniture and basic houseware. By donating your gently used clothing, furniture, household items, and more to WINS, you're not only decluttering your space but also making a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

If you're ready to roll up your sleeves and embark on a spring cleaning adventure, here are some tips to help you get started:

Set Clear Goals

Before diving into the decluttering process, take some time to set clear goals for yourself. What areas of your home do you want to tackle? What items are you willing to part with? Having a plan in place will make the process feel more manageable and help you stay focused.

Declutter Room by Room

Trying to tackle your entire home in one go can feel overwhelming. Instead, break the task down into smaller, more manageable chunks by decluttering one room at a time. Start with areas that tend to accumulate the most clutter, such as closets, attics, and basements.

Sort and Categorize

As you go through your belongings, create separate piles for items you want to keep, donate, and discard. Be honest with yourself about what you truly need and use it regularly. If you haven't worn or used something in the past year, it's probably time to let it go.

Clean and Prepare Items

Before donating, take the time to clean and prepare your items for their new home. Wash clothing and linens, wipe down furniture and household items, and make sure everything is in good condition. Not only will this make your donations more appealing to potential buyers, but it will also show respect for the recipients.

Drop Off Your Donations

Once you've sorted through your belongings and prepared your donations, it's time to drop them off at your nearest WINS thrift store. Not only will you be clearing out your unwanted goods, but you'll also be supporting a worthy cause and helping women and families in need.

Spread the Word

Encourage your friends, family, and neighbours to join you in your spring cleaning efforts and donate their unwanted items to WINS as well. By spreading the word and rallying others to take action, you can make an even bigger impact on your community.

Spring cleaning isn't just about tidying up your home; it's also an opportunity to make a positive difference in the lives of others. By decluttering your space and donating to WINS, you can help support women and families in need while creating a more organized and harmonious environment for yourself. So roll up your sleeves, grab some boxes, and let the spring cleaning begin!

I loved these spring cleaning tips for donating to WINS—decluttering really does feel good while helping others. It also made me think about staying informed on urgent global health crises, like the Current Ebola outbreak stats and map from WHO updates, DRC and Uganda 2026 Ebola situation dashboard.
